Whitworth Online Financial Aid

Options to Manage College Costs

Paying for college is a big decision, but you don’t have to figure it out alone. The majority of Whitworth students receive some form of financial aid. Whitworth Online offers many options to help you manage costs as you move forward.

They include the following:

Financial Aid

Start With the FAFSA

Every Whitworth Online applicant should start the financial aid process by completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You do not have to be a low-income student to qualify for federal loans. They allow you to defer payments for college costs and pay them later at a reduced interest rate. Only domestic and permanent residents are eligible. When filling out the online application, use Whitworth’s Title IV code: 003804.

Grants

Need-Based Support for College

The federal and state governments offer need-based grants for college students. Examples include the federal Pell Grant and the Washington College Grant. You must first complete the FAFSA to determine eligibility.

Grant options include the following:

This is a federal grant for undergraduate students with financial need. Need is determined by information on the FAFSA and federal methodology. Pell Grants are based on Expected Family Contributions (EFC).

This grant is for undergraduate students with exceptional financial need. Financial need is determined by the information on the FAFSA and federal methodology.

This grant is for students who are enrolled in college to prepare for a career teaching in high-need fields such as math, science, foreign language, bilingual education, English language acquisition, special education or reading specialist.

This grant helps the state’s lowest-income undergraduate students pursue college degrees. Eligible students must have financial need as determined by the state’s formula and be a Washington state resident.

Credit Transfers

Options to More Quickly Earn Your Degree

Another way to reduce your college costs is the Whitworth transfer policy. By applying credit from past college courses, subject tests, certifications, military training and other professional training, you can spend less on completing your bachelor’s or master’s degree.

Transfer options include the following:

If you’ve earned a qualified Applied Associate degree (A.A.S. or other) from a regionally accredited institution, completing at least 60 semester (90 quarter) credits, you can transfer with 60 semester credits. Our associate degree transfer policy saves you time and money in completing your degree.

At Whitworth Online, we value the experience gained by adult learners outside the classroom. Our advisors help you get every credit possible for that experience. That includes earning credits through low-cost subject tests, certifications, military training and other professional training. Options include:

  • Taking the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) and DANTES Standardized Subject Tests (DSST). For about $100 per exam, CLEP and DSST allow you to earn college credits by passing individual subject exams.
  • Earning credit through certifications, exams or courses assessed as having academic credit by The American Council of Education (ACE). Search the ACE National Guide for extra-institutional experiences you have completed and order official transcripts. Examples include T-Mobile Associate Expert training, Google certifications, Microsoft exams and insurance courses.
  • Whitworth’s Prior Learning Assessment program gives you the opportunity to earn up to 31 semester credits toward your degree through a portfolio assessment of professional training, certificates, courses or licenses you have taken.

Employer Assistance

Tuition Benefits for Valuable Employees

Another important step toward finding financial aid for college is through your employer. Many organizations will pay all or part of your tuition if your further education benefits the business. If you have employer tuition benefits, Whitworth will accept payment when your company pays, usually at the end of the term.
